2024 Lax Fest & Playoffs –

Saturday May 11, 2024

IMLAX is pleased to announce the details of 2024 Lax Fest. In the place of traditional playoff formats, IMLAX will sponsor an end-of-season festival. The Lax Fest model will provide:

1. An opportunity for all teams to participate in end-of-season play.

2. Match teams of similar levels against each other to provide a competitively balanced final weekend.

3. Emphasize good sportsmanship and the recreational structure of our league.

The festival will provide two games for each team in ALL divisions of the 5th-8th grade age groups.  The teams will be designated into two conferences, NORTH and SOUTH once all regular season scores have been entered at the conclusion of games on May 4th (& weeknight games 5/6).  Blocks of 4 teams will be created according to their ranking by conference outside of the top 8 seeds (NORTH 9, 10, 11, 12 etc.) prior to Lax Fest.  Each grouping of 4 teams will play a round robin with winners and losers of the first set of games then playing each other.

PLAYOFFS: The top 8 teams from each division will participate in a traditional 8 team bracket for playoffs. All playoff games will be standard 12-minute running quarter games, same format as all regular season games. The first 2 rounds of playoffs will be conducted on Saturday May 11th similar to Lax Fest.

For example:

Location 1:                                                      Location 2:

Game 4: winner game 1 vs. winner game 2      Game 8: winner game 5 vs. winner game 6

Lax Fest game format:

Game Time - 18-minute halves.

Halftime – 4 minutes

No time outs.

Overtime

1. Playoff games ONLY - If a game is tied at the end of regulation a single 4-minute overtime period will be played. If still tied after 1st OT period teams will continue un timed until goal is scored

2. ALL LAX Fest Games – if tied at end of regulation will immediately be decided by a “Braveheart.”

***Braveheart = 1 field player & 1 goalie from each team, starts with a faceoff, and goalies in their respective defensive crease – first goal wins***

Official time-outs (e.g. injury) - DO NOT stop the game clock.

Penalties - Running time except when suspended for a time out or the half. Technical fouls are 45 seconds, and personals run in 90-second increments. Penalty time begins when the player is in the box, and the official restarts play.

Start - Games will start promptly on time at the official’s direction. If your team isn't ready, you're burning daylight, and potentially losing the opening face-off.  Games must stay on time!

Mercy rule - At a six-goal differential, officials award the faceoff to the trailing team. Teams behind in the score may waive the mercy rule.

Lax Fest Schedule:

The MAJORITY of the schedule will be completed and posted on Monday May 6th.  Locations and times will not be available until then.

IMPORTANT: There are a handful of makeup games on Monday (5/8) some of the playoff seeding and lax fest schedules could be delayed until these games are completed!!!
